Wegovy 1.7mg is the fourth escalation dose of the once-weekly Wegovy injection and one of its two maintenance doses, prescribed for long-term weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight adults with a weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is reached around weeks 13 to 16, after which your doctor decides whether to keep you at 1.7mg or increase to the 2.4mg maintenance dose.

The active ingredient, semaglutide, is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics the natural GLP-1 hormone your body releases after eating. It reduces appetite, increases feelings of fullness and slows digestion, helping you eat less and feel satisfied for longer. It is given as a once-weekly injection under the skin, not as a daily tablet.

Inject once a week, on the same day, at any time of day, with or without food, under the skin in your abdomen, thigh or upper arm, rotating the site each week. Store new pens in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C, and do not freeze them. How to use

• Inject once a week, on the same day, at any time with or without food.
