A six-ingredient organic formula

Four herbs and two carriers, and nothing else. Organic ginger root, organic fennel seed essential oil and organic dill essential oil are long-established culinary and herbal ingredients used to comfort babies with occasional wind and stomach discomfort. Actazin™ is a kiwifruit extract sourced from New Zealand. These sit in organic vegetable glycerin and purified water. The blend is certified organic by Oregon Tilth and carries Kosher Parve certification, and it was formulated by Dr Murray Clarke, the paediatrician who founded ChildLife Essentials.

What this gripe water does not contain

No alcohol. No added sugar. No sodium bicarbonate. No preservatives such as benzoates, sorbates or parabens. No artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. It is also gluten free and casein free, and contains no milk, egg, soy, wheat, yeast or corn. Many older gripe water recipes were built around sugar and bicarbonate of soda, so it is worth reading the ingredient panel on any product intended for an infant.

Storage and shelf life after opening

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Wash the dropper after each use and replace the cap tightly. Once opened, the bottle should be discarded after six weeks. Keep out of reach of children.

Halal status and dietary suitability

The formula contains no alcohol and no gelatin. Its six ingredients are plant-derived herbs and extracts in a vegetable glycerin and water base, which makes it suitable for vegetarian households. How to use

Shake the bottle well before each use.
Draw the dose into the dropper, 2 ml for infants up to six months, 2 to 4 ml from six months onwards, as needed.
Give directly by dropper. It can be used at any time of day.
Wash the dropper after use and replace the cap tightly.
Discard the bottle six weeks after opening.
